Mission Statement

Eastside Gymnastics is dedicated to educate and inspire each gymnast through emphases in strong fundamentals, performance skills, a commitment to developing a strong body, and teaching in a positive atmosphere that develops a healthy self-esteem.

Vision

We look to the future in training our athletes that they may become strong competitors who excel at the highest levels and have opportunities for performance and scholarship through hard work and training.  We hope that the strengths and skills learned will have a positive advantage to every aspect of their lives.

To help accomplish our vision, we created a state of the art training facility and provide an experienced staff that is committed to continued education and implementation of current trends, techniques, and athletic training.

Competition

Members of our team compete at the local, state, regional, and national levels in the USA-Gymnastics Junior Olympic program.

J.O. Development Rainbows
Description: The rainbows program is an advanced preschool program designed to identify and train young gymnasts who show physical talent and desire for developing into a competitive gymnasts. This is a year round training program that uses age appropriate drills, skills, and activities. When gymnasts get old enough they participate in gym programs to develop performance skills. Registration is by invitation or instructor approval.

Rainbow Pink (3 year olds):
Tuesday/Thursday 9:30-10:20 am
The three year old program is a fast pace class that focuses on classroom skills, special awareness, exploring movement, developing the large muscle groups, and learning age appropriate skills. Children will learn simple locomotor skills and begin to develop balance, jumping, and swinging skills. This is a 50 minute class that must be attended two times a week.

Rainbow Purple(4-5 years):
Mon/Wed 4:00-5:00pm.
Tuesday/Thursday 10:30-11:30am
Tuesday/Thursday 6:00-7:00pm

In Rainbow Purple as the girls begin to become more aware of movement potential they begin to learn simple skills on each apparatus. The J.O. level 1 routines on each piece of equipment are learned as well as important developmental skills and position that are important for strong basics and fundamental in competitive gymnastics. Girls begin to learn simple sequences.

Rainbow Blue (4-6 years):
Tuesday/Thursday 12:30-2:00pm
Girls at this level learn more complex skills, strength, and dance. The girls learn J.O. level 2 routines and begin to enhance performance skills. This class is two days a week for 90 minutes.

Rainbow Gold (4-6 years):
Tuesday/Thursday 4:00-6:00pm.
The Gold program is pre-team development programs where girls begin learn the J.O. 3 routines and strengthen fundamentals for power, swing, flexibility, and strength. This is two times a week for two hours.

Level 4 - Mon/Wed/Fri 4:00-7:00pm.
Level 5 - Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 4:00-7:30pm
Level 6 - Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 4:00-7:30pm
Levels 7/8/9 - Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri 3:30-7:30pm ALSO Saturday 8:30am-1:30pm.

 

Coaches

All of our coaches are professional members of USA-Gymnastics, are safety certified, and must pass background checks every two years.

Colleen Long
Colleen Long is now EGA’s girls’ competitive program director. She has over 25 years of teaching and coaching experience and growing up, she competed collegiately for Brigham Young University before studying dance, theater and coaching. Colleen has coached gymnastics from the preschool level through level 10. During her tenure as a coach, she has produced teams and competitors who have competed at the local, state, regional and national levels. Her favorite events are beam and floor. Colleen is married and has three boys and loves hiking and kayaking.

 

 

 


Marina Mamedova
Marina Mamedova began taking gymnastics at six years of age and was a two time State Champion in Baku, Azerbaijan. She is now coaching alongside Colleen Long and Jason Farr for our competitive girls’ program. Marina was awarded the title “Master of Sport” in Russia in 1977 and participated in the opening of the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980. She taught artistic gymnastics and aerobics in Russia for almost 14 years and immigrated to the USA with her husband and two sons in 2003, where she has continued to train gymnasts of all levels. She has also taught preschool level gymnastics and worked specifically with young gymnastics demonstrating outstanding talent to develop their skills at a young age.

 

 

 

Ben Carson
Coach Ben is originally from Everett, WA. He started gymnastics at age 5 and has been coaching competitive gymnastics teams since high school. Ben was a competitive trampolinist and competed level 10 on the trampoline and double-mini trampoline at national championships in 2006 and 2007. Ben is a member of the National Association of Womens Gymnastics judges and holds certification to judge up to Level 8. He has coached competitive boys, girls, trampoline & tumbling and cheerleadering in both Washington and Nevada. Coach Ben is also a reservist in the United States Marine Corps.

 

 

 

Nancy Hershgold
Nancy as recently joined the competitive coaching staff after being a L3 coach for several years and recently leading her L3 team to 2nd AA in the 2010 WA State L3 Championships. She was a competitive gymnast growing up and won 2nd AA in the State Championships in SLC Utah. She was awarded the HS Athlete of the year in Gymnastics and the Outstanding in Excellence Award for Gymnastics in 1979. Nancy was also a member of the University of Utah cheerleading squad who ranked 3rd Nationally in the Ford Collegiate National Championships. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and works full time as a Liability Claim Specialist for State Farm Insurance, which she had done for the past 24 years. She is married and has 3 children, a dog, a parrot and 2 pet rats. She loves gardening and kayaking but her passion is working with young girls who love the sport of gymnastics as much as she does.
